Post 16 Links
In our Post 16 department we work hard to further develop students' independence skills. For some of our students this is about increasing the range of experiences they have and further developing their communication and choice making skills, while for others this is about giving them an experience of the world of work and / or developing their home management skills. For all our students Post 16 means supporting them to ensure they are prepared to take that next step in life and be ready to leave school. In order to support our students with all of the above we have developed a number of links with external providers and are working on developing more links.
We work closely with City College Plymouth and have done for some time. Our students who are moving on get the opportunity to take part in taster sessions at the college to help prepare them for college life. Our students also have the opportunity to gain taster of college life via link courses with City College Plymouth. As part of their link courses students have the opportunity to take part in vocational learning, including Horticulture, Painting and Decorating, mechanics and Computer Programming.
Students have also left us to attend Oakwood College, Dame Hannah and WESC Foundation and prior to leaving we ensure they have a successful period of transition to prepare them for their future placements.
Work Experience Providers
We have forged excellent partnership with a number of local businesses to enable our pupils to gain a real experience of the world of work; these partnerships include Wembury Riding Stables, Plymouth Library Services, Wembury Marine Centre, Stoke Allotments, St Luke's Charity Shops. We also set up and run in-house work experience placements for students to work as TA and to assist our site supervisor.
