Post 16 Links
In our Post 16 department we work hard to further develop students' independence skills. For some of our students this is about increasing the range of experiences they have and further developing their communication and choice making skills, while for others this is about giving them an experience of the world of work and / or developing their home management skills. For all our students Post 16 means supporting them to ensure they are prepared to take that next step in life and be ready to leave school. In order to support our students with all of the above we have developed a number of links with external providers and are working on developing more links.
We work closely with City College Plymouth and have done for some time. Our students who are moving on get the opportunity to take part in taster sessions at the college to help prepare them for college life.
We are also developing links with Saltash College so our students have a choice of FE provider when they leave school.
Work Experience Providers
We work closely with the Donkey Sanctury Ivybridge who give our students an experience of working life through stable management and students work towards an AQA unit in this area.
We also have started to work closely with The Dove Project. The Dove Project involves our students in community projects which give them an insight into the world of work and the opportunities on offer to them post school. Students learn to work alongside other other young people on the project, which improves their team work and social skills. The project is allows students to work on the AQA Unit award working on a National Trust Project. Working with the Dove Project has so far been a very positive experience for our young people and we look forward to developing this link further.
