The Early Years at Mill Ford School
At Mill Ford we believe that every child is unique and deserves to play and learn in a nurturing and safe environment. We will work with you to support your child in their first years at school, learning from you how best to support your child.
Playing and Exploring
We have one purpose built classroom based on the mainstream site at Ernesettle School, and an additional class at our main school site. Our pupils benefit from a free-flow environment where they can play safely inside and out. There is an opportunity to access the mainstream nursery and develop friendships with their peers, if / when appropriate.
All children are observed when playing to help staff develop personalised learning plans. We focus on what motivates the children as well as supporting emerging skills. Most learning is though play or playful activities with highly qualified staff who role model appropriate behaviours and skills.
Creating and Thinking Critically
Our aim is to foster as much independence for the children as we can, whatever their need or ability level. Complimenting the free flow environment are simple structured routine activities, which ensure the children feel secure and understand what is happening around them. Children are encouraged to make choices and persist at activities they enjoy. All communication is supported by Makaton signing or use of photos or picture symbols.
