Mill Ford School

Informal

Informal learning is the root to all learning. Informal learners are those we would traditionally have referred to as PMLD. These learners aren’t ready to engage in subject specific learning, as identified in the Rochford Report and to do so would be tokenistic. These learners need an extremely personalised approach to their learning and their progress, is tracked using the 5 areas of engagement; namely exploration, realisation, anticipation, persistence and initiation. Teaching for these learners will be very much based in a sensory approach that will enable them to progress or support them not to lose skills. Work with these pupils often involves teams of multi-agency workers and input from SALT, Physiotherapists, VI and HI teachers will be key to ensure the correct curriculum approach where relevant.
