Semi-Formal

Semi-formal learners engage in subject specific learning in English and Maths, including phonics.  The key skills, within these vital areas of learning, are the trunk that secures all branches of learning. For semi-formal learners other areas of the curriculum are based on a topic approach in KS2, which will include aspects of the EYFS curriculum and support in moving to the early stages of the National Curriculum. In KS3 semi-formal learners will move to a subject specific curriculum, adapted to their individual level of understanding, to ensure they continue to make progress and thrive educationally, as well as developing further their skills for live. In KS4 and 5 semi-formal learners continue to focus their learning on subject but the move is to subjects that more directly prepare pupils for life after school.
